For three years I saved a teardrop trailer in Moab in my Airbnb “Dream Vacation Rentals” folder. I loved the idea of personally selecting the perfect campsite and having a sweet little home set up for me when I arrived. For whatever reason, my husband and I never seemed to have time to make the rental work, so when I built out the logistics for an upcoming shoot in southern Utah, I decided to take the leap and book it for myself! I drove from my parent’s home outside of Aspen, Colorado, through Moab, Arches, and Dead Horse, before making my way further south to Zion. The two days and nights I spent staying in the teardrop from Red Rocks Base Camp Rentals were initially a bit intimidating, but I ultimately felt safe and comfortable alone in the desert. I enjoyed peaceful mornings journaling and drinking coffee, and spent my afternoons hiking through the national and state parks. Traveling alone can be scary, but it’s also supremely awarding.
